Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us at the Jambalaya Benefit for Robyn. It was a huge success – complete sellout!

Thanks to Randy Sinclair and his crew for cooking a delicious jambalaya ( He is the man you need for your next event) Major cudos to Shannon, Michelle, RaeAnn, & Kimberly for all their hard work!

The rain actually held off and Robyn and Ms. Kandi (check out that pink mohawk) were actually able to come out and visit! Robyn’s bloodwork is getting better and she has two possible matches for bone marrow transplants. So keep those prayers going – especially since has to endure another round of chemo this week!

Be passionate about serving others. One tiny random act of kindness can cause another person to commit an act of kindness and then it’s like a domino effect that can spread and change our world.

Heartbreaking News……

Posted in Uncategorized on January 5, 2010 by materialmutt

I am using this page as an outreach….this year I decided no New Year’s Resolutions. I decided it was a much better feat to try to do one good deed a day that did not involve money for 30 days straight. I had read something that struck my heart “To change the world the way you want it to be…start at home with yourself.” Little did I know my first challenge was about to hit me and throw me for a loop.

A very dear, kind person that I have had the pleasure to meet and am privileged to call a friend, Robyn Grantham, runs a small animal rescue in Denham Springs, LA. Robyn runs this rescue from her home and has saved countless animals from what would have been a horrific ending. She does this basically on her own with the help of volunteers and relies solely on donations.

Today I received a horrible phone call informing me that Robyn is in the hospital for an undetermined amount of time and is seriously ill. Even though she is in a hospital bed, these animals and their care were one of her main concerns. Thus, I am trying to help her and her family by taking some of the burden of the rescue animals that are in her facility now off of her mind.

I am looking for anyone interested in adoptions or fostering a pet. You can go to facebook under “Material Mutt”  and see pixs & lil bit of info about pups at the rescue right now. The rescue is also in need of any donations: cleaning supplies, foods, treats, etc. If you can’t foster or adopt, I am also trying to organize anyone able to donate time to clean/care/play with the animals so her family can concentrate on taking care of Robyn.

Please pass this page on to your friends so that we can spread the word and find some help for our four legged friends.

A  last little note and definitely the most important. We ask for prayers for Robyn. She is a generous soul that has made a huge difference in the world around her. We love you !!

HELP.. 35 DOGS LIVING IN A TRUCK!!

Posted in Uncategorized on May 23, 2009 by materialmutt

Small Animal Rescue came to the help again on Friday. A truely sad story : a gentleman who is mentally challenged surrendered 35 dogs.

This gentleman’s history makes you stop and appreciate all that you have now in your life. Within the last year he lost both of his parents and his wife was committed to a hospital. With no more financial support, he lost his home that he was living in with his wife and dogs. Which leads us to Friday when he was found living in a truck with 35 dogs. He only had  4 kennels for the dogs. There was no food or water that we could see for the animals.

Small Animal Rescue took in 15 of the dogs. They are all Papillions except for one chihauhau mix. A companion rescue took in the remainder of the dogs.  We all spent the afternoon bathing, grooming, defleaing, treating, and vaccinating the animals.

There were two sets of mama dogs with litter of puppies ( 1 litter about 10 days old and 1 litter about 21 days old). We are looking for anyone who is willing to open up their hearts and homes to any of  these precious little ones as a foster home caregiver. All dogs will go up for adoption once they are neutered and given a clean bill of health. They just need some temporary housing in the mean time. All they require is a little food, a little water, and lots of love. What could be easier than that.  If you can help foster, please  contact us at : materialmutt@cox.net

If you are unable to foster, please consider donating to the Small Animal Rescue. We will have to cover the expense of vaccinations, neutering, feeding, and healthcare of all the rescued pups. Just click on the following link to donate: http://faithfulfriends.chipin.com/faithful-friendsf

Remember no amount is to small and everything is greatfully appreciated.

If you are unable or uncomfortable with making a monetary donation online, the rescue is also in need of supplies. Anything you can think of : dog food, bowls, blankets, kennels, toys, beds, etc. We will be happy to pick up and deliver any donations you have, just contact us via email: materialmutt@cox.net .

And if you are unable to do any of the above we always welcome prayer. Keep us and the Small Animal Rescue group covered in prayer that we never grow weary with the daunting task that we have taken on

Animal Rescue In Livingston Parish

Posted in Uncategorized on May 5, 2009 by materialmutt

WARNING…GRAPHIC PHOTOS !!

For about a year now , we have been searching for a way to give back. How can we help. How can we make a difference…..that is why we wanted to let everyone know about an animal resuce that took place this past week in Livingston Parish.

“Small Animal Rescue” went to assist  a humane society representative – there had been a complaint that at an address there were over 60 animals in horrible conditions on the property and the people were calling themselves breeders. Their idea of breeding was simply seeing dollar signs only….there is no other excuse for the condition these animals where found in. Due to an error of court order papers not being ready, the breeders were not arrested and/or fined. Nothing happened to them….”Small Animal Rescue” volunteers did convince the property owner to at least release approximately 10 dogs to be taken off of the property for care and adoption. I could hear in the volunteer’s voice when I spoke to her as she left the property it was  with a heavy heart that she left the other animals behind. I tried assuring her she did all she could do and only good things would come from her efforts.

What is even worse  is the fact that this is the second resuce at this location. These so called breeders were visited by the Humane Society once before about a year prior. At that time, they found over 200 animals is despicable shape on the property. Nothing was done to the breeders at that time also.

So, we have decided to step in and try to help out as best we can. We have esatablished a chip in link to accept donations for the treatment and care of these animals. 100% of all donations will go straight to the “Small Animal Resuce” to help these poor pups. Any money will be greatly appreciated…nothing is too small. Just follow the following link :  http://faithfulfriends.chipin.com/faithful-friendsf

If you don’t feel comfartable donating money, they are in need of supplies (ie. dog food, etc.) to take care of the animals. Just contact us and we will be happy to pick up any donated items and deliver them to the resuce.

The pictures  below show just a few of the animals and their conditions….

This lab and dachshund were literally starving too death…the lab is being placed with a foster home who is trying to slowly work with him to gain his weight back. The dachshunds are at the rescue and being worked with to get back to a healthly weight.

All of the pups generously received checkups from local vets….to explain the dire situation these dogs were living in…the vet said they had no heartworms or intestinal worms because they were in too pitiful of shape to even host the worms. There literally was no protein on the dogs to host even a parasite.

The chihauhau pup below was taken and was so malnourished that you could not even tell that she is very advanced in a pregnancy. At least the litter, will start life out on a loving track.

The poodle below is only five years old….it only had one tooth left in it’s mouth, nails were overgrown to the point he could not walk, and was so severly matted did not know until a vet examined him that his hip was totally out the socket. He never grimmaced even in severe pain. Unfortunately he was beyond being saved and had to put to sleep. Members from Small Animal Rescue cleaned him up , clipped his nails, and gave him a proper burial so he can go where he will no longer suffer.

Any support you can give us including prayers will be greatly appreciated…
